Reynaldo Hahn: Three Songs for Voice and Guitar
The first of these three songs, "Si mes vers avaient des ailes," was composed by Hahn when he was only 13. It was published in 1888 to great success and jump-started his career. The other two, "Salinum" and "Lydé," were written and published in 1900. The lyrics were taken from Leconte de Lisle's large work entitled Poèmes Antiques, first published in the mid-nineteenth century. The poet was also a scholar who was famous for his translations of ancient Greek and Roman poetry. Leconte de Lisle was especially noted for his translations of Horace, a poet of late antiquity.
