Originally for piano solo, these three Sonatines
provide convincing proof of Sibelius's genius. They challenge
the virtuosity of the musician and the heart and spirit of
the listener, revealing the composer's talent for intimate
and expressive chamber music. Sonatine Nr. 2 is an intermediate
level duet in three movements and uses scordatura (sixth
string tuned down a whole step to D). The Elgart/Yates LP Music
of the 20th Century includes Sonatine Nr. 3; Glenn
Gould recorded all three Sonatines for CBS.
